Hash Rate

What is "Hash Rate"?

Hash rate is the estimated average number of hashes per second produced by miners on the network.

Why is "Hash Rate" important?

Hash rate reflects the total level of computational power devoted to mining blocks. A higher hash rate increases the difficulty of executing a 51% attack and therefore improves the network’s resistance to chain reorganization attempts. Changes in hash rate can indicate shifts in miner participation and changes in mining economics.

How is "Hash Rate" calculated?

Hash rate is estimated based on current network difficulty and average block time and reflects the approximate amount of computational power devoted to mining.
