Gap Finder – CME Gap Visualization Tool

Gap Finder is a lightweight indicator designed to detect and visualize price gaps that occur between trading sessions, commonly referred to as CME gaps. It is suitable for both intraday and higher-timeframe traders who monitor unfilled gaps as potential areas of interest.

🔍 How it works
  • The script detects gaps on the open of a new trading day by comparing the current open to the previous session’s close.
  • Gaps are filtered by a minimum gap size (%), allowing you to ignore insignificant gaps.
  • Each qualifying gap is drawn as a shaded box between the gap’s high and low.
  • Gaps are monitored in real time and are considered filled once price trades into the gap area (with an optional buffer).

📊 Visual behavior
  • Gap boxes extend only up to the current bar (not into the future), preventing old unfilled gaps from distorting chart autoscaling.
  • A configurable lookback limit (default: 100 bars) controls how far a gap remains visible on the chart.
  • Optional labels display the gap size percentage at the time of creation.
  • Separate colors are used for up gaps and down gaps for quick visual identification.

⚙️ Inputs
  • Minimum Gap Size (%) – Filters out small gaps
  • Gap Colors – Custom colors for up and down gaps
  • Fill Buffer – Extra tolerance for determining when a gap is filled
  • Gap Lookback (bars) – Maximum number of bars a gap is displayed
  • Show Gap Size Label – Toggle percentage labels on/off

✅ Designed for usability
  • Does not affect chart scaling due to old gaps
  • Efficient object handling for smooth performance
  • Works on intraday and daily charts
  • Overlay-based for seamless integration with price action
