Volume Profile Supertrend [HexaTrades]Volume Profile Supertrend re-imagines the classic Supertrend. Instead of trailing bands built from pure volatility (ATR), it builds them around the levels where real volume has traded the Point of Control and Value Area.
The philosophy is simple: a normal Supertrend follows volatility; this one follows where the market accepts value. Price tends to gravitate to, and trend away from, the zones where the most business gets done. By anchoring the trend engine to value migration, the indicator aims to stay on the right side of the move while filtering out a portion of low-quality volatility noise.
Everything is computed internally in Pine; no built-in Volume Profile tool is used, so it works on any symbol and timeframe that has volume.
💡How it works
1. Rolling Volume Profile:
It looks back over the last Profile Lookback bars, finds the high–low range, and divides it into Number of Rows price buckets. Every historical bar's volume is distributed across the buckets its range spans, producing a fresh volume distribution on every candle.
2. POC, VAH & VAL:
POC (Point of Control) : the price bucket with the highest traded volume (the "fairest price").
Value Area: the script expands outward from the POC until it captures the chosen Value Area % (default 70%) of total volume.
VAH / VAL: the upper and lower edges of that Value Area.
3. Smoothing & Supertrend bands:
POC, VAH, and VAL are smoothed with EMAs to remove jitter. Two trailing bands are then built, exactly like a Supertrend:
Lower band = smoothed VAL − (ATR × buffer) → support used while bullish.
Upper band = smoothed VAH + (ATR × buffer) → resistance used while bearish.
The bands only trail in the trend-following direction, so they lock in as the price advances.
4. Trend flip:
The trend is bullish while price holds above the lower band, and flips bearish when price closes below it (and vice-versa). The flip is evaluated against the previous bar's confirmed bands, so closed candles never change.
💡How to read it
🔶Bullish:A green line sits below the price. The market is accepting a higher value; treat pullbacks toward the line as the trend "breathing." A flip to red is your warning.
🔶Bearish: A red line sits above the price. Value is migrating lower; rallies into the line are where sellers tend to re-engage. A flip to green signals a potential turn.
🔶Choppy Markets: When price is inside the value area and trend strength is low, the market may be sideways.
In these conditions, signals can be weaker. It may be better to wait for a clear value breakout or stronger trend strength.

🔷 Session Volume Profile: The indicator creates a horizontal volume profile for each trading session. Each profile shows how much volume traded at different price levels during that session.
The widest part of the profile represents the area with the highest traded volume. Thin areas show low-volume zones where price may move faster.
🔷 POC - Point of Control: POC is the price level with the highest traded volume during the session.
It is one of the most important levels on the chart because it represents the price where the market spent the most activity.
How to use POC:
- Price above POC can suggest buyers are in control.
- Price below POC can suggest sellers are in control.
- A retest of POC can act as support or resistance.
- A strong rejection from POC may create a trade setup.

🔷 VAH and VAL - Value Area High / Low
The Value Area represents the price zone where most of the session’s volume traded, usually 70%.
VAH is the upper boundary of the value area.
VAL is the lower boundary of the value area.
How to use Value Area:
- Price inside value area = balanced market.
- Price above VAH = bullish acceptance/strength.
- Price below VAL = bearish acceptance/weakness.

🔷 PDH and PDL - Previous Day High / Low
PDH means Previous Day High.
PDL means Previous Day Low.

- Break below PDL may show bearish momentum.
- A fake breakout above PDH followed by rejection can indicate a liquidity sweep.

- Break below IBL may indicate a bearish trend day.
- Rejection from IBH/IBL may indicate range continuation.

Introduction
Dual Profile Structure Map is an open-source session volume profile indicator that computes Point of Control, Value Area High, Value Area Low, and Initial Balance levels for the current session and displays them as a horizontal histogram overlaid on price. Unlike fixed-range or visible-range profiles, this indicator uses time-based session segmentation — the profile represents only the bars within the current trading day, updating continuously as each bar closes.
The profile answers a specific question: where was the majority of trading activity concentrated in the current session, and what are the structural reference levels that follow from that activity? The Initial Balance (the range of the first hour of the session) provides context for whether subsequent price behavior is an extension or a rejection.
Core Concepts
1. Volume Profile Calculation
Price range is divided into configurable bins. Each bar's volume is allocated to the bins that overlap its high-low range, proportionally by the fraction of the bar that falls within each bin. The result is an array of volume-at-price values for the session:

2. Point of Control and Value Area
The Point of Control (POC) is the bin with the highest volume — the price level where the most trading occurred. The Value Area is computed using the standard 70% rule: starting from the POC, adjacent bins are added to the value area (choosing the higher-volume adjacent bin each time) until 70% of session volume is captured. The resulting Value Area High (VAH) and Value Area Low (VAL) define the range where value was accepted.
3. Initial Balance
The Initial Balance uses the high and low of the first configurable number of bars after session open (default: first 4 bars on a 15-minute chart = first hour). IB High and IB Low are drawn as horizontal lines across the chart. Price trading above IB High is bullish extension; below IB Low is bearish extension; inside the IB is balance.
4. Histogram Rendering
Volume bins are rendered as horizontal bars extending leftward from the right edge of the session. Bar width is proportional to relative volume. The POC bin uses a distinct color. Value area bins use a softer fill. Bins outside the value area use the dimmest fill. This creates the standard volume profile "bell curve" visualization.

Step 3: Trade Initial Balance Extensions
A close above IB High with follow-through is a bullish extension signal. A close below IB Low is bearish. Range expansion beyond the IB indicates participants accepting new value outside the opening equilibrium.
Step 4: Watch POC as Support or Resistance
On future pullbacks, the prior session's POC often acts as structural support or resistance. The indicator's persistent level lines provide these reference points across sessions.
Indicator Limitations
Volume profile interpretation requires practice; mechanical rules based on profile levels without context produce poor results
On instruments with irregular volume distribution (low-liquidity sessions, gaps), profiles may cluster into unrepresentative patterns
The 70% value area rule is a convention from Market Profile theory, not a mathematically proven optimal threshold

This indicator uses TradingView's native ta.requestVolumeDelta() function, which reconstructs delta by scanning a lower timeframe (automatically selected or manually configured) to approximate the split between up-volume and down-volume for each candle.

The result is a horizontal bar chart displayed to the right of the last candle, where each row represents a price level and the width of the bar represents the total delta activity at that level. The color of each bar reflects which side dominated:

PROFILE SHAPE
A profile with a clear peak (narrow, tall distribution) suggests price spent most of its time and order flow at a specific level — strong agreement on value. A wide, flat profile suggests price moved across a broad range without clear absorption at any single level.
POINT OF CONTROL (POC)
The POC is the single most important level in the profile. It represents where the maximum institutional order flow occurred. Price has a strong tendency to gravitate back toward the POC after extended moves away from it, making it a high-probability mean-reversion target. It also acts as a decisive level: a clean break and hold above a teal POC confirms bullish institutional commitment; a rejection at a pink POC confirms continued distribution.

If price is trading significantly above or below the POC, there is a structural tendency to return to it. The POC acts as a mean-reversion target, especially in range-bound or post-impulse conditions.
3. READ THE COLOR FOR BIAS
Before entering a trade, check the delta color at the relevant support or resistance level. A teal zone below current price strengthens a long bias — institutions were buying there. A pink zone above current price strengthens a short bias — institutions were selling there.

WHAT IS THE THEORY BEHIND THIS INDICATOR
Cumulative Volume Delta attempts to answer a question that price and volume alone cannot: in any given bar, were buyers or sellers more aggressive? Traditional volume tells you HOW MUCH traded, but not the DIRECTION of the pressure. A high-volume bar that closes flat tells a very different story from a high-volume bar that closes at its highs — yet raw volume scores them identically.
CVD approximates directional pressure by weighting each bar's volume by where price closed within its range. This indicator uses the Close Location Value (CLV) for that weighting:
clv = ((close − low) − (high − close)) / (high − low)
CLV ranges from +1 (close exactly at the high — maximum buying pressure) to −1 (close exactly at the low — maximum selling pressure), with 0 at the midpoint. Multiplying CLV by volume produces a signed directional contribution per bar: delta_raw = clv × volume. This is more nuanced than the binary tick rule (close > open = buy) used by most "delta" indicators — CLV captures HOW DECISIVELY price closed in its range, not just the sign.
The per-bar delta is then smoothed by EMA and normalized into a bounded 0-100 zero-centered score:

Most indicators tell you where price is. This one tells you where the market lives. The Support Band + Volume Profile is built around a single idea: price gravitates toward zones where real participation has happened, and it respects dynamic boundaries defined by the market's own momentum structure. This indicator surfaces both at once — a trend-adaptive zone on price and the volume history behind it.
How It's Calculated
Trend Direction (ADX + 200 SMA)
Market direction is read continuously using the DMI system — DI+ vs DI− for directional dominance, with the 200 SMA as a tiebreaker when they are equal. There is no neutral state. The indicator always commits to bull or bear, and all colors and zone behavior follow from that.
The Support Band (SMA 20 / EMA 21)
The innermost layer is a filled zone between the 20-period SMA and the 21-period EMA. These two averages are nearly identical in length but calculated differently, so the gap between them stays tight — producing a precise dynamic level rather than a wide smear. This is the mean of the recent trend. In a bull market it is the floor price returns to on pullbacks. In a bear market it is the ceiling price fails at on rallies. Green in a bull trend, red in a bear trend.
The Kijun Band — Main Trend Support and Resistance
The outer layer is the primary structural boundary of the indicator. The Kijun-Sen and Tenkan-Sen form a filled zone that acts as the main dynamic support in uptrends and the main dynamic resistance in downtrends, derived from Ichimoku Cloud. When price holds above this band the trend is intact. When price breaks through it and cannot reclaim it, the trend is in trouble.
Both lines adapt their lengths based on market conditions — compressing when momentum is strong and price is trending cleanly, expanding when conditions are weak or choppy. This means the boundary zone tightens in fast trends and widens when the market is uncertain, automatically adjusting to the environment. The lines are colored cyan in a bull regime and magenta in a bear regime, keeping them distinct from the inner band at all times.
The Kijun line within that band is the single most important level to watch. It is the baseline the trend must hold. Everything else in the indicator gives context to what happens at the Kijun.
Volume Profile — Reading the Zones

The volume profile is drawn to the right of price covering the last 240 bars. It answers the question the bands cannot: how much real participation has happened at each price level. A band sitting on a high-volume node is structurally different from a band sitting in empty space.
Point of Control (POC): The price level with the highest total volume — the market's center of gravity. When the POC aligns with the Kijun or the support band, that level is not just a moving average. It is a price the market has repeatedly chosen, making it the highest-conviction read the indicator can produce.
Value Area: The central 68% of all volume, shown as the brightest bars on the profile. The edges of the Value Area are high-probability reaction levels. Price approaching from outside tends to stall at the boundary or accelerate into the core. When the band zone overlaps a Value Area edge, dynamic structure and volume history are stacked at the same level.
Buy/Sell Split: Every row is divided between buying volume (green) and selling volume (red). When one side exceeds 60% it renders as a strong single color. This shows not just where volume was high — it shows who was in control. A dominant green node below price is demand. A dominant red node above is supply.
Low Volume Gaps: Rows with very little volume are structural gaps. Price moves through them quickly with little friction and accelerates until it hits the next meaningful cluster. When the band sits at the edge of a gap, a break can be fast and directional.
Freshness Fade: Recent volume glows brighter. Older volume fades. This prevents the profile from treating a level from 200 bars ago the same as one from yesterday.
Price Pivot S/R Lines
The last three swing highs and swing lows drawn as horizontal dashed lines — red for resistance, green for support. These are price memory. The exact levels where the market has previously reversed.
Bollingerbands
Custom Bollinger bands that can be toggled on to see outer lines of directional trend
How to Read It
The zone between the support band and the Kijun boundary is the core read. Green means the corridor is support — healthy pullbacks happen here. Red means it is resistance — rallies fail here. A tight narrow zone signals strong trend momentum. A wide zone signals a slower or more uncertain market.
The Kijun line is the level that matters most. A pullback that holds above it and bounces is trend continuation. A close below it is a warning. A reclaim from below is the first sign of a potential reversal. Every trade setup built with this indicator lives or dies at the Kijun.
The volume profile tells you whether the Kijun level carries real weight. A Kijun sitting on a large green volume node has been defended by buyers repeatedly — it has structural backing. A Kijun sitting in thin faded volume is unproven. When the POC and the Kijun are at the same price, that is the strongest signal this indicator can produce.
Value Area edges add a second volume-based reference layer. Watch for the band or Kijun to overlap with the top or bottom of the Value Area — that is confluence of two independent structural forces at the same level.
Pivot lines show the nearest price structure above and below. A green pivot just below the Kijun in a bull trend means two separate historical references are stacked — structural and volume-based support reinforce each other.
How to Trade With It
Bull Trend Pullback
Band is green. Price pulls back into the support band or toward the Kijun. Check the volume profile — is there a high-volume green node or the POC near that level? If yes, the zone has volume backing. Wait for a reversal signal inside the zone. Enter long with a stop below the Kijun. The nearest green pivot below is your hard invalidation.
Bear Trend Rally
Band is red. Price rallies into the band or toward the Kijun. Check the volume profile — is there a high-volume red node or the POC near the Kijun? If yes, the resistance is volume-confirmed. Wait for rejection inside the zone. Enter short with a stop above the Kijun. The nearest red pivot above is your invalidation.
Volume Gap Move
When price breaks out of the band and enters a low-volume section of the profile, expect the move to accelerate. There is no structural resistance in that gap. Price will run until it hits the next meaningful volume cluster. Use the profile to identify where that cluster is and target it.
Trend Change Warning
When the band flips color, stop trading the previous direction. Wait for price to pull back and hold the newly-colored zone on a retest before entering the new direction. Check the POC — if it is already on the new direction's side of price, the flip has volume support and is more likely to hold.
Confluence Filter
The cleanest setups occur when everything agrees: band color matches the trade direction, price is testing the Kijun, the POC or a high-volume node is at or near that level, and a pivot line adds nearby structure. When all of that stacks at one price, the zone is as high-conviction as this indicator gets.
